Avery shaved 2 minutes off her previous best. Her most recent cross country race was run in 5 minutes and 52 seconds. This was the hardest course so far. Lots of hills and even a broken sprinkler that was spewing water all over the course. I'm seriously impressed. You try and run 3/4 a mile in 5:52 with little 4th grade legs.


P.S. Today at cross country practice the results came in from her Ironwood High race a couple weeks ago and (Drum Roll Please).........4:53.

How To Stop A Thumb Sucker

This method worked like a charm. I was really apprehensive when he developed the dreaded thumb sucking habit. Avery had a pacifier. That one was easy. Take it away. But how do you take away a thumb? I had no idea, but this is actually possible. What they do is encase the hand and arm in fiberglass for about 5 weeks and viola! This technique was a little pricey, but effective.

Unfortunately he has now taken up shoving his blanket in his mouth and chewing on it all night long. Harmless, I know. Except for the fact that his blanket constantly smells like death. I wash it as much as I can but as soon as he and blanket are reunited it is back in his mouth and back smelling putrid. I googled "How To Stop A Blanket Biter". Would you believe I came up empty? Guess I'll have to live with this one.

Baby I'm - A Want You, Baby I'm - A Need You

Eleven years ago today I gave Brigham this.

I know what you're thinking, sweet wedding gift.

It is, isn't it?

Brigham was a little embarrassed because he had not a gift for me, nor was ever informed that newlyweds get gifts for each other. I reassured him that he had plenty of time to make it up to me.

He started things off by making me laugh. He always makes me laugh, even when I'm mad at him.

He's also an unbelievable dad to our four little ones, who he refers to as litter mates. He is always surprising them with trips to Sonic after school, or the ever popular impromptu wrestling match on the living room floor. Yes, Brigham as your father is something to be envied.

Brigham shows me that the cup is half full. Something that I need to be constantly reminded of. He is definitely a optimist. Such good looks and a sunny perspective. It's almost too much to hope for.

Every Wednesday night for 7 years as I served in Young Women he took care of everything. He fed the kids, helped them with their homework and got them in bed. On occasion he even straightened up the house. I loved coming home on Wednesday night to a quiet clean house and curling up on the couch with one hot boy to watch whatever was loaded up on Tivo.

He tells me he loves me, which I believe. He also tells me I look hot when I play catch with him in the back yard. Now I know this is just a ruse to get me to toss the ball around, but I eat it up. Works every time.

In the end I totally think I received the better gift.

Ruby has been preparing herself for Halloween for about three months by wearing her bat costume every day. I don't know how she does it. It can't be comfortable considering it was made for her when she was one. I guess she's really committed to this Halloween thing. Here the Ruby Bat is spotted devouring chicken wings. Look at those bat teeth.

Our Sport Is Your Sport's Punishment

Last Saturday morning our whole family was up and heading out the door by 6:30 am. We were on our way to Avery's very first cross

country meet. Yay! I loved watching her warm up with her team in her oversized uniform (Much better than the short shorts that cross country runners usually don). My stomach did somersaults as I watched her nervously waiting for her grade's turn to race. After waiting through six separate heats it was finally her turn and she was amazing! She finished her 3/4 mile race in 7min 55 sec.
